THE GALETTA TRIBUNE -August 2024

THE GALETTA TRIBUNE

 August 2024

The Great Galetta Gathering

The sun was shining, the air was filled with the sound of music, kiddos were running amok ricocheting off  the walls of the bouncy castles, parents were wandering about checking on the the kids or just looking for another beer or hamburger, and everyone knew the Great Galetta Gathering was on.

It is unimaginable the number of hours that  go into putting  an event of this size together.

Everything has to be lined up from booking the musicians, to making sure the marquee tents are erected exactly where they need to be, to talking to God and arranging the nice weather. And all the credit  has to go to our one and only Emily B that puts this  event all together and makes it look so easy.

But one person does not make an army and a very special acknowledgement has to go out to our Sue H for getting all the permits and licences and such…..let me repeat that: for getting all the permits and licences and such from the city BUREAUCRATS in time for our event. If anyone thinks this is any small feat they have never dealt with City Hall. Her other half Terry was responsible for the construction of our brand new performance deck  (we aren't allowed to call it a stage and that's why we have Sue dealing with city bureaucrats) doing all the construction in the stifling 30 plus temperatures we all endured prior to the GGG. To his credit once that project was completed Terry and his ‘nothing is impossible’ attitude was out and about helping to get whatever needed to be done completed.

To the legion of volunteers, well I wish it was legions but it was amazing the number of people that came forward and pitched in and to all you good folks  a huge thank you for making the show such a success. A very special appreciation has to go out to Heidi, her husband Brandon and their two boys Marcus and Zak for the tremendous effort and the amount of time they put into making our party an event to remember.

Galetta Rummage Sale

Yup, it's that time of year again folks where we turn our attention to the Great Galetta Rummage Sale on Oct 17th this year. Why is everything always so great in Galetta you may ask, that's because we don't do anything half assed. Actually this is one of the annual events that is a dedicated fund-raiser for  us (we do have euchre tournaments) so anything you can contribute goes a long way to providing whatever programs we can. So before you throw away that “ol thingie” or “whatcha-ma-call-it” consider donating it to our worthy cause. All donations can be dropped off at the community centre in the garden shed behind the garage.

Badminton and Croquet

Now that the Great Galetta Gathering is behind us we are opening what were the lawn bowling greens up to badminton and croquet for anyone who wishes to give it a try. There is a badminton net with rackets and birdies all set up and ready for anyone's enjoyment and right beside it is a croquet court all laid out with balls and mallets.

Next Meeting

Our next meeting is going to be held like usual on the fourth Monday of the month at 7PM at the community centre. So if you want to see democracy in action at its most local level come out on August the 26th.

Thank you one and all.

Norm
